FAQ

Distribution Centre Construction FAQ

How is the right number of dock doors determined?

Door capacity is assessed against peak arrivals, trailer dwell time, unloading or loading duration, staging capacity and the operating schedule. The final count must also fit structural bays, dock equipment and safe interior circulation.

What is the difference between cross-dock and single-sided distribution centres?

Cross-dock buildings typically move freight between opposing loading faces, while single-sided facilities concentrate doors on one elevation and use greater internal depth for storage or processing. The choice affects site circulation, structure and material travel.

When should conveyor and sortation suppliers be involved?

They should provide layouts, loads, clearances and service requirements while structural and building-service coordination is still active. Early information protects equipment routes and reduces changes to completed building work.

Who handles truck courts and exterior paving?

Ardenvale delivers and coordinates the building work. Harrowgate handles civil scope including excavation, grading, truck courts, exterior aprons and paving, with both teams aligning dock elevations and schedule interfaces.

Can a distribution centre be completed in phases?

Yes, when occupancy, fire protection, access, services and material routes can be separated safely. The phasing plan must define which doors and systems are available at each operating stage.
